Finding scholarships safely

How to find real scholarships and avoid scams.

Signs of a scam

  • You are asked to pay a fee to apply or to “release” an award.
  • You are told you have won something you never applied for.
  • Pressure to act within hours.
  • Requests for bank details, BVN or passwords.
  • Contact only through a personal phone number or a free email address.

How to check

  • Find the scholarship on the funder’s own official website, not only on social media.
  • Contact the funder directly using details from their official site.
  • Ask your school, university or a CPI facilitator.
  • Never pay to apply, and never share passwords or your BVN.

CPI does not charge for scholarship guidance. If anyone claims to represent CPI and asks for money, contact us at support@careerpathways.org.
