Your data
Privacy Policy
How Career Pathways Initiative collects, uses and protects your information, in plain language.
The short version
- We only collect what we need to run the programme and support you.
- Your Career Discovery answers, profile and roadmap are saved to CPI so a coach can support you. Only authorised CPI staff can see them.
- If you are 12 to 17, a parent or guardian must confirm before anything is saved. Under 12s cannot sign up online.
- We never sell your data, and we never use it to rank you.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or withdraw consent, at any time.
Who we are
Career Pathways Initiative (“CPI”, “we”) is run by Career Blueprint Partners Ltd (RC 2148703), 20 Samuel Street, Ogudu, Lagos, Nigeria. Career Blueprint Partners Ltd is the data controller for the information described here.
We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and the NDPA General Application and Implementation Directive 2025 (GAID), regulated by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
What we collect
- Sign-up details: your name, age band, life stage, state and city, phone or email, and the interests you choose. For ages 12–17, your parent or guardian’s name and contact.
- Career Discovery: your self-assessment answers, the profile generated from them, your corrections, exploration notes and roadmap.
- Organisation and mentor sign-ups: contact and organisation details, and for mentors the information needed for safeguarding checks.
- Messages you send us through the contact form, email or WhatsApp.
- Technical data: basic server logs needed to keep the website secure. We do not put personal data in analytics.
We do not ask for health, religion, ethnicity, political views or other sensitive information. Please don’t include these in free-text answers.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| Activity | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Career Discovery: assessment, profile and roadmap | Your consent at sign-up (guardian consent for ages 12–17) |
| Individual and parent sign-ups | Consent |
| School, organisation, partner, mentor and contact forms | Legitimate interests: responding to you and managing our relationship |
| Mentor screening | Consent and legitimate interests (safeguarding) |
| Research questionnaires | Separate, research-specific consent |
| Photos and videos | Separate, optional consent (guardian consent for under-18s) |
| Opportunity updates | Opt-in consent, with easy unsubscribe |
Career Discovery and your profile
When you take the self-assessment, your answers are saved to CPI after each section. Your Discovery Profile is generated automatically by fixed, published rules. There is no AI and no hidden score. Your location, gender, school and practical circumstances never affect any score or direction.
The profile does not make decisions about you. It is a starting point for a conversation, and you can mark anything as not fitting. You can ask for a coach to review your profile with you at any time.
If you prefer not to use the online tool, you can complete the printed questionnaire with a facilitator instead.
Children and guardian consent
- Under 12: cannot sign up or use Career Discovery online. Children can take part through a partner school or with a parent, using paper consent.
- Ages 12–17: a parent or guardian confirms the sign-up with a one-time code before anything is saved or the assessment can start. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 30 days.
- Turning 18: we will ask for your own consent to keep your record.
- Photos or videos of under-18s are only used with separate guardian consent, and never with names.
Who can see your data
Only authorised CPI staff and coaches, using named accounts with two-factor sign-in. Coaches see only their own cohorts. Every access to Career Discovery records is logged.
We use service providers to host the website, store form data and send messages. They may only use your data to provide that service to us. We will list them here before launch.
We publish research findings only as anonymised totals, never small groups that could identify someone.
Where your data is stored
Some providers may store data outside Nigeria. Before launch we will name the countries here and the legal basis for each transfer under the NDPA.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Individual and parent sign-ups | 2 years after your last contact with the programme |
| Career Discovery records | 2 years after your last contact, then deleted or fully anonymised |

| Unconfirmed guardian consent | 30 days |
| Organisation and partner sign-ups | 2 years after our last exchange |

Keeping data safe
We use encrypted connections, encryption at rest, role-based access and separate stores for contact details, Career Discovery records and research responses. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell the NDPC within 72 hours and tell you straight away if the risk is high.
