Preparing for interviews

How to prepare, answer common questions with examples, and follow up.

Before

  • Research the organisation: what it does, who it serves and any recent news.
  • Reread the job advert and your application.
  • Prepare three examples from school, work, NYSC or volunteering that show problem-solving, teamwork and responsibility.
  • Plan your route or test your connection for an online interview.

Answering with examples

Use a simple structure: the situation, what you did, and what happened. Keep each answer to about two minutes.

Questions to prepare for

  • Tell us about yourself.
  • Why do you want this role?
  • Tell us about a time you solved a problem.
  • What would you do in your first three months?
  • Do you have any questions for us?

After

Send a short thank-you message. Whatever the outcome, note what went well and what you would change next time.
