For secondary school students
Your subject stream (Science, Arts or Commercial) shapes which courses you can apply for later. Before you choose:
- List two or three career families you are curious about, and check which subjects they usually need.
- Check the actual admission requirements for courses you might want, using JAMB’s official brochure and the university’s own admissions page.
- Talk to your school’s guidance counsellor and to someone who studied that course.
- If you are unsure, ask which combination keeps the most doors open.
For undergraduates
Your course does not lock you into one career. Many fields recruit from several disciplines. Look at:
- Electives, minors or specialisations that connect your course to a direction you care about.
- Internships and SIWES placements that let you test a field.
- Transferable skills you are building: writing, analysis, teamwork, presentation.
Vocational and other routes
University is one route, not the only one. Polytechnics, colleges of education, technical colleges, apprenticeships and professional certifications are all valid paths into skilled, respected work.
